Sunday afternoon we had such a fun time at Laura’s 13th birthday party!! Laura seemed very excited we were there! The kids were SOO happy and have been looking forward to the party ALL week!! It was a beautiful afternoon to celebrate with all of her family here in Germany. The party was at Laura’s other Oma & Opa’s house. They too have a nice garden and play area for the kids. We arrived & had “coffee & kek time” Weibke (Laura’s mom) & her Oma Margot had prepared delicious birthday cakes :) It was super special…. I just couldn’t believe that we were getting to sit there w/all of her family that we hear so much about-this meant so much to me personally! Her Oma Margot & Opa Wolfgang remind me so much of my mom & dad. It has been really neat for me to spend some time w/them on this trip. Laura loves spending time with them so much & now I see why, they are amazing grandparents!! We also got to meet Oma Moo (Laura’s other great grandmother, who is 86 (I believe)—she was one spunky little lady—that was so very neat too)—they call her Oma Moo b/c she spent most of her life working w/Cows—I loved this!!
Weibke had planned so many fun games for all the kids! It was amazing-the kids had an absolute blast & didn’ t want to leave..Opa Wolfgang even had a bonfire & the kids got to roast marshmellows!! I have some new ideas for some fun kid games too :) yeah!! I have to add here, that I am SO thankful for our relationship w/Weibke. She is such a great mom to Laura, and treats us so nicely & loves the kids so much. Her family has just loved on us since we’ve been here & have accepted us in like we were family. (They are the ones who have brought over most of the toys & bikes that the kids have played with since being here in Germany. How nice is that!?!) When I think about the entire situation we have w/Weibke I realize how blessed we are to have the relationship we do with her! It makes me soo happy to see the life that Laura lives here in Germany…she is SOOOO well loved!!
We were also surprised that some family friends (Heinz Peter, Silke & their son Nikolas) were there. He was the best man in our wedding & such special friends. They lived in Dallas for a couple of years when we lived in Boulder, but we always enjoy seeing Heinz Peter when he’s in Dallas on business. It was wonderful to speak English for a couple of hours, catch up w/them & hangout & watch the kids have fun!

Today’s Ethiopia update from Falk…this was their 1st day of classes…this is his response to me asking in an earlier email “you say you had a long and hard day, so did you enjoy it?” (Such a wife question, right)…his response ” we teach a class from 9 till 12, and another from 5 till 8. Now imagine to prepare for every class, then think of all the random interruptions, trying to eat at some point, showering and bathroom stuff takes a lot longer in our house …. It’s just really scary how to get it all done, as I prepare day by day for the next lecture. Sorry, I can’t write much, Vic needs the card. I definitely like being here and teaching. The questions that we receive are amazing, often spirit-world related, and animism, and things we don’t wrestle with in the same way in the west.”
Here are pictures from the party…
