Much has been written on this topic, and I shared some thoughts myself in in an earlier post. http://www.alicke.com/blogg/moralargument/ Most people realize that what is growing in the womb is not a piece of lifeless flesh, but truly a child, a human being, an image bearer of God. Most agree that Abortion is wrong, and should not be a normative response to an unwanted pregnancy. Yet we like to make a few provisions, make abortion permissible in a few extreme cases. For example. isn’t it justified when a woman was raped? Isn’t abortion at least acceptable when the child will most likely be born with a down syndrome? Is living such life worthwhile? How can we ask the mother to raise a child that will never grow beyond the intellectual capabilities of a 2-year old?
A friend made me aware of the 33-min clip “180″. The footage is extraordinary insightful and touching. As humans we tend to belittle our responsibilities and consequences of our actions. By way of presenting the facts, the author is able to reach his adolescent audience powerfully, and in a matter of minutes helps them to discern their (our!!!!) flawed thinking. The clip’s conclusion: abortion is not a matter of preference. If you think abortion is occasionally justifiable, would you watch this clip and let us know in the comment section whether or not you changed your mind? We would love to hear from you.
