What a fun night!!!

We had such a blast with all 15 kiddos on the first night of Kids Quest Tuesday Night!

Tonight we began our study on “God’s Names” by Sally Michael. We learned about names and how we each have many different names that tell us something about that person. The one true God of the Bible has more than 200 names.  If you were to count all the names, titles, and nicknames of God in the Bible there would be more than 700! God’s names are promises to us of how big and great and wonderful God is!

The first of God’s names that we discovered tonight was ELOHIM (pronounced: e-lō-ˈhēm). The very first thing we learn about in the Bible is that God is the Creator and He made the whole world. The story of the creation of the world shows that God, Elohim, is a strong, mighty, powerful Creator. We discovered (in our paper bag object lesson) that order does not happen by itself. Someone HAD to create the world and put it in order.  (ex: someone had to arrange the stars and separate the mountains from the water as everything orderly has a first cause). That someone is God, Elohim, Strong Creator. We were reminded that God did not need any help; He never gets tired; and He never runs out of things or ideas! What an amazing concept to comprehend for our kids and us too! Take the time to look around at God’s creation and be in awe of how great our God, Elohim, is!

The nights 2.5 hours fleeewwww by :) We had a fun time with our Bible story time, special creation snack that represented each day of creation(see picture), played balloon games outside, made name/verse flip cards to take home to help us memorize our verses for Elohim, and we even learned how we got the letters in our alphabet that we use today from the Hebrew characters (e.g. the letter ‘A’ originates from an upside-down image of an ox).

We talked about THREE verses tonight:

First is our theme verse for the summer that we are going to work on each Tuesday that we meet:

•  “And those who know your name, put their trust in you!”  Psalm 9:10

Second, is the verse that reminds of the name Elohim for God:

•  “Oh, Lord God, you did indeed make heaven and earth by your mighty power and great strength. Nothing is too hard for you!”   Jeremiah 32:17

(This is a longer and more challenging verse to learn….so we are going to stress the italicized parts of the verse)

Third, another great verse that is easier for the kids to memorize for creation:

• “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

*Remember to work on memorizing these (and any other verses from the list handed out Tuesday) for the next Tuesday we meet and you’ll get points to spend at “store night” our last Tuesday together this summer!
